✦ Our Story ✦
For decades, the Greater Charleston City Council has united Beta Sigma Phi chapters across the Lowcountry in a shared mission of sisterhood, service, and culture.
Beta Sigma Phi
Beta Sigma Phi was founded on April 30, 1931, by Walter W. Ross in Abilene, Kansas. What began as a small group of young women seeking friendship and personal growth has grown into one of the world's largest women's organizations, with chapters in countries across the globe.
The yellow rose is our enduring symbol — representing the warmth, grace, and beauty of the friendships formed within our sisterhood. It appears at our ceremonies, our gatherings, and in the hearts of members everywhere.
The Greater Charleston City Council was established to coordinate and support the many Beta Sigma Phi chapters serving women throughout the Lowcountry. We organize council-wide events, facilitate communication between chapters, and uphold the traditions that make our sorority special.
Our Values
We celebrate the fullness of life — embracing joy, growth, and the everyday moments that bind us together as sisters.
We are committed to lifelong learning, personal development, and supporting education in our community through scholarships and programs.
At the heart of Beta Sigma Phi is friendship — genuine, lasting bonds formed through shared experiences and mutual support.
Council Officers
Our council officers are elected by member chapters to serve and guide the Greater Charleston community.
